Skip the menu: let OsmO call IRS for you
OsmO is an AI phone assistant app. Tell it what you need and it makes the call: it listens to the IRS menu, presses the keys, waits on hold, and rings you the moment a person picks up.
Make a call for me
YouCall IRS, get through the menu and wait on hold. Transfer me when a person answers.
OsmOOn it. I’ll press through the menu and hold the line.
A person answeredOsmO rings you and hands over the call, or tells you the answer with a transcript.

Navigates phone menus. Listens to every option and presses the right keys for you.
Waits on hold. You get on with your day; OsmO holds the line.
Hands you the call. When a person answers, tap to take over, or let OsmO finish and send you a summary.
Cuts the noise. OsmO also screens spam and robocalls, so the calls that reach you are the ones that matter.
1-800-829-1040. We took it from irs.gov and called it ourselves on Oct 28, 2026.
What are IRS’s customer service hours?
Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm in your local time zone (Alaska and Hawaii follow Pacific time; Puerto Rico is 8am to 8pm). Outside those hours the menu says it cannot connect you and hangs up.
Is there a IRS number that’s open 24/7?
No. Representatives answer Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm in your local time. When we called from a West Coast number before 7am Pacific, the menu said it was after hours and hung up, even though it was already 9am in New York.
How do I skip the automated menu?
Call 1-800-829-1040, then press 4, then press 2, then press 2, then wait about 1 min, then press 2. That reached the queue for a person in our test.
How long is the wait to talk to someone?
About 2.5 min until “let me transfer you to someone who can help” in our test on Oct 28, 2026. We did not stay on hold after that, so the hold time for a person is not measured.
How hard is the IRS phone menu?
We rate it 80/100 (Hard). It took 5 steps to reach a person, across 17 menus with 53 options. Our score adds 10 for every key or spoken step on the way, 10 for every forced wait, 5 per minute until a person and 1 for every menu.
Can someone call IRS for me?
Yes. OsmO, an AI phone assistant app, can call IRS, press the keys and wait on hold for you.
Does the IRS offer a callback?
Sometimes. irs.gov says that when wait times are over 15 minutes, and a representative can be reached during business hours, you may be offered a return call instead of waiting on hold.
Will the IRS call me to demand payment?
No. The IRS menu itself warns that the real IRS will not call, email or text you to demand immediate payment. Hang up on anyone who does, and call 1-800-829-1040 yourself.
OsmO is not affiliated with IRS. The number comes from IRS’s own website. Menus change; ours was tested on Oct 28, 2026.
